Phần Reading a Text Aloud là một trong 5 part của bài thi TOEIC Speaking. Phần này được đánh giá là cần tập trung nhiều nhất vào phát âm, trọng âm và ngữ điệu. Giới thiệu cấu trúc bài thi TOEIC Speaking Reading a Text Aloud
TOEIC Speaking Test gồm 11 câu hỏi được thiết kế để đánh giá trực tiếp kỹ năng Nói được thực hiện trong vòng 20 phút. Nội dung bài thi xoay quanh bối cảnh cuộc sống hàng ngày và môi trường làm việc quốc tế. Ở bài viết này, Halo tập trung vào 2 câu hỏi đầu tiên của bài thi TOEIC Speaking. Với yêu cầu chính Read a Text Aloud (Đọc to một đoạn văn bản), thí sinh có 45 giây để chuẩn bị và thời gian đọc đoạn văn là 45 giây.
Khi bắt đầu bài thi, thí sinh sẽ nhận được dòng chữ yêu cầu xuất hiện trên màn hình: “In this part of the test, you will read aloud the text on the screen. You will have 45 seconds to prepare. Then you will have 45 seconds to read the text aloud”. Sau 45 giây chuẩn bị, thí sinh sẽ nghe hiệu lệnh “Begin reading aloud now (Bắt đầu đọc to ngay bây giờ)”. Lúc này, bạn sẽ bắt đầu đọc to và phần trả lời sẽ được ghi âm lại.

Tiêu chí 1: Pronunciation (Phát âm)
0 điểm: Đây là mức điểm khi thí sinh không thể đọc bất cứ từ nào trong đoạn văn.
1 điểm: Thí sinh thỉnh thoảng phát âm sai một số từ, giữa các đoạn không có sự liền mạch.
2 điểm: Thí sinh hiếm khi phát âm sai, thỉnh thoảng bị ngắt giữa các từ.
3 điểm: Phát âm hay, đúng chuẩn, rõ ràng, rành mạch giữa từ và câu. Tuy nhiên vẫn còn các lỗi nhỏ về mức độ trôi chảy khi đọc.
Tiêu chí 2: Intonation and Stress (Ngữ điệu và trọng âm)
0 điểm: Thí sinh đọc đoạn văn theo giọng monotone (giọng đều đều, không lên xuống giọng) và không có trọng âm cho từng từ và câu.
1 điểm: Thí sinh biết cách sử dụng ngữ điệu và trọng âm, tuy nhiên vẫn còn một số từ và câu không phù hợp.
2 điểm: Thí sinh có ngữ điệu lên xuống từ đầu đến cuối câu, tuy nhiên thỉnh thoảng mắc lỗi về trọng âm.
3 điểm: Giọng đọc hay, ngữ điệu về từ và câu đầy đủ, nhấn nhá phù hợp về mặt trọng âm.
Cách làm bài thi TOEIC Speaking Part 1
Có thể nói, việc vận dụng đồng thời 3 tiêu chí: Phát âm, Trọng âm, Ngữ điệu và Ngắt câu trong phần thi đọc to một đoạn văn bản là một điều không hề dễ dàng, đòi hỏi thí sinh có sử dụng chuẩn bị và luyện tập liên tục. Ở phần tiếp theo Halo sẽ gợi ý hướng xử lý dạng câu hỏi Read a Text Aloud trong 45 giây được cho phép để chuẩn bị. Mục đích của giao tiếp là truyền tải thành công ý tưởng, thông điệp. Do vậy, tính “đúng” nên được ưu tiên hàng đầu trước tính “hay”. Thứ tự các bước cần làm dưới đây đi theo đúng thứ tự đó: quan tâm các yếu tố giúp đảm bảo người học đọc ngữ liệu một cách có nghĩa, hiểu được trước, sau đó mới xét đến các yếu tố giúp tăng hiệu quả.

Bước 1: Đọc lướt toàn bộ ngữ liệu
Khi đọc lướt ngữ liệu được cho bên trên, thí sinh cần lưu ý các dấu câu để ngắt giọng phù hợp.
Bước 2: Kiểm tra lại các từ khó phát âm hoặc dễ nhầm lẫn
Các từ nhiều âm tiết cần chú ý trọng âm: NAtional, MARketer, CONference, atTENdance, faCIlities, employEE, SESsion, SURveys, QUEStions.
Tên riêng: Yorktown
Từ có nhiều cách phát âm:
record /rɪˈkɔːrd/ (động từ)
conduct /kənˈdʌkt/ (động từ)
Bước 3: Xem xét trọng âm và điều chỉnh ngữ điệu
Câu 1 là lời mở đầu và cảm ơn nên có thể nhấn mạnh vào các từ nội dung: “welcome”, “thank you”, “training conference”.
Câu 2 là lời nhắc nhở về thủ tục nên có thể nhấn mạnh vào các từ nội dung: “check in”, “booth”, “record”, “attendance”.
Câu 3-5 là chỉ dẫn nên có thể nhấn mạnh vào các từ nội dung: “trainers”, “on hand”, “conduct”, “given”, “training handbook”, “employee packet”, “end”, “surveys”.
Ngoại trừ câu hỏi Yes/No ở cuối có ngữ điệu đi lên, tất cả các câu còn lại đều là câu trần thuật nên ngữ điệu đi xuống ở cuối câu.
