Để có thể viết mở bài IELTS Writing Task 1 hiệu quả, thì bạn cần phải đưa ra được thông tin bảng hay biểu đồ mô tả về cái gì, thời gian, địa điểm liên quan đến đối tượng được mô tả. Cách để viết mở bài nhanh và hiệu quả đó chính là viết lại (Paraphrase) đề bài. Cùng Halo luyện tập cách viết mở đầu thông qua các ví dụ sau nhé.
Cách viết mở bài số 1
Câu 1 (câu gốc): The bar chart shows the percentage of overweight men and women in Australia between 1980 and 2010.
Câu 2 (Paraphrase): The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian males and females who were overweight from 1980 to 2010.
Vậy câu này đã được paraphrase như nào?
1. Chủ ngữ: Bar chart (câu 1) -> bar chart (câu 2)
Thông thường phần này mình không nhất thiết phải paraphrase. Bạn có thể thay bằng graph hoặc nhấn mạnh là provided/given bar chart (biểu đồ đã cho).
2. Động từ: Show (câu 1) -> illustrate (câu 2)
Đây là thành phần cần phải paraphrase. Ngoài từ illustrate mình còn có thể thay bằng các từ/ cụm từ khác như “demonstrate, reveal, indicate, compare, give information about, etc.”
3. Tân ngữ: The percentage of overweight men and women in Australia (câu 1)
–> the proportion of Australian males and females who were overweight. (câu 2)

Từ đồng nghĩa (Synonyms)
Percentage -> Proportion;
Men and women -> Males and females
Biến đổi dạng từ (Word form)
Noun in Australia (danh từ) -> Australian + Noun
Thay đổi trật tự từ trong câu (Word order)
Overweight men and women -> Males and females who were overweight
Trạng từ
Between 1980 and 2010 (câu 1) -> from 1980 to 2010.

Cách viết mở bài số 2
Câu 1 (câu gốc): The pie charts below illustrate the number of journal articles read per week by all students, Ph.D. students, and junior lecturers at an Australian university.
Câu 2 (paraphrased): The provided pie charts give information about how many articles from academic journals are read weekly by Ph.D. students and junior lecturers compared to other students at an Australian university.
1. Chủ ngữ: The pie charts below —> the provided pie charts
2. Động từ: Illustrate —> give information about
3. Tân ngữ: The number of journal articles read per week by all students, Ph.D. students, and junior lecturers at an Australian university
—> how many articles from academic journals are read weekly by Ph.D. students and junior lecturers compared to other students at an Australian university.
4. Trạng từ: at an Australian university -> at a university in Australia
Với thành phần này cụ thể các kỹ năng sau về paraphrase đã được sử dụng
Từ đồng nghĩa (synonyms): per week = weekly
Thay đổi trật tự từ trong câu (bằng việc thay đổi cấu trúc ngữ pháp): the number of journal articles read…. = how many articles from academic journals are read ….
